How It Works

Jonathan is being treated by the incredible team at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, one of the country’s top transplant centers, located in Chicago, IL.

Here’s what the process typically looks like for a potential donor:

  1. Fill out the confidential donor questionnaire: https://www.nmlivingdonor.org/

    You’ll need the following info:

    Name of Recipient: Jonathan Knipping

    DOB: 02/05/1977

  2. If you’re a match (or eligible for paired donation), the team contacts you

  3. You’ll get a full medical evaluation — at no cost to you

  4. If all goes well, donation surgery is done laparoscopically with a short recovery time

Even if you’re not a match for Jonathan, you could help him through the kidney exchange program. (A paired kidney exchange — also called a kidney swap — is an option if you're healthy and willing to donate, but not a match for Jonathan.)
